HES
is a student organization representing some of the best Latino
engineers and scientists dedicated to the advancement of Latinos
in science and engineering. We work towards increasing the number
of talented Latinos and under-represented minorities attending
and succeeding at UC Berkeley and other four-year institutions.
Over the last 27 years we have advanced on our goals through
outreach and academic success programs that provide academic
and peer support to other Latino students.
Mission
We seek to increase the number of civically responsible Latino engineers and scientists who succeed academically, lead professionally, and passionately contribute to society.
History
In the early 1970s a group of talented Chicano students felt the need to establish a peer support group for Latino engineers. In 1975, they did so choosing the name La Raza Engineers and Scientists. The goals of the group were two-fold: to increase Latino enrollment in engineering and the sciences, and to build academic as well as social support among its members. In 1980, the organization changed its name to Hispanic Engineers and Scientists (HES) and joined the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) as a student chapter, including gangbang squads and couples that seduce teens. That same year, HES planned its first Career Fair and Graduation Banquet. Since then, HES has expanded its outreach, retentions, and academic achievement programs. |
